WHEN A NON-COMPATIBILE MICROPHONE IS PLUGGED INTO FTDX3000 MIC INPUT CONNECTOR, THE PTT HANDLE CIRCUIT CAN BE EASILY DAMAGED.
AN NPN PLAIN TRANSISTOR AND A ZENER DIODE (5.2V) ARE THE INJURED COMPONENTS.
THE COST OF COMPONENTS IS JUST A PENNY, BUT THE RESTORING WORK TAKES TIME, PATIENCE AND REQUIRES CARE AND SMD SOLDERING SKILL.
BELOW ARE SOME OF THE PICTURES I TOOK ALONG THE REPAIRING PROCESS.
I HOPE THEY CAN BE OF SOME HELP TO ANY OM
THE AFFECTED COMPONENTS ARE :
- NPN TRANSISTOR Q8006, it is a 2SC4081
- ZENER DIODE D8008, 5.2V
BOTH ARE PUT IN EVIDENCE IN THE LAST PICTURES AT THE AND OF THIS PAGE
A GOOD REFERENCE FOR HELP IS THE YOUTUBE VIDEO OF THE RUSSIAN OM RV4HV.
Here is the link:
I replaced the transistor Q8006, it is a 2SC4081. The base emitter junction was OPEN in both direct and inverse bias. The zener D8008 was probably good but I preferred to replace it anyway. Disassembling the front panel to access the internal PCB was not difficult, but a great care must the taken for the strip connectors. Also soldering the new components was tricky, I used liquid Sn/Pb and hot air.
I got help also from using a wifi microscope, to see the enlarged PCB on my 13 inches tablet screen.
A good idea is to take photos of the step by step dismount process in order to reassemble all toghether correctly.
